Immokalee, Fla. — William Rodriguez closed out the 2017 WPTDeepStacks Immokalee in style Wednesday night winning the $150 Green Chip Bounty event for the second year in a row. As a reward for defending his title, Rodriguez earned $1,500 in prize money along with a $1,100 Main Event seat following a heads-up chop.

Last year, Rodriguez defeated a field of 71 entries. This year’s field was slightly more intimate, but proved to be a test for Rodriguez who needed the better part of 10 hours to claim victory.

The field narrowed to the final 10 a little after 7pm. Just the top six finished in the money with notables such as this week’s Seniors Event champion Nora Salinas, Seniors Event third-place finisher Frank Franze and Event 3 fourth-place finisher Dave Milligan. Milligan hit the rail shy of a payday following a double elimination that sent the field in to the money. From there, Taylor Patterson busted sixth, Jeff Reese fourth and Stephanie Richard fifth.

Next to go was Nora in a huge, three-way pot that ultimately propelled Rodriguez to the winner’s circle. Rodriguez limped the button and Humberto Salinas raised to 18,000 from the small blind. Nora called from the big and it was back on Rodriguez who jammed 171,000. Both players called. Humberto had the lot covered while Rodriguez held the advantage over Nora. Rodriguez owned queens versus Humberto’s tens and Nora’s nines. The runout improved Rodriguez to a set busting Nora third and giving Rodriguez a huge heads-up chip lead. Nora earned $672 for the deep run.

Rodriguez and Humberto didn’t play a hand heads up. They quickly agreed to a deal that saw Rodriguez earn the aforementioned $1,500 score along with the $1,100 Main Event seat and the tournament trophy. Humberto, meanwhile, earning $1,476. Unfortunately, due to the threat of an impending hurricane, the remainder of the 2017 WPTDeepStacks Immokalee series was postponed and Rodriguez will have to wait until the event is rescheduled to use his seat.

Rodriguez is 35 years old. He was born in the Bronx but now resides in nearby Naples. Following tonight’s Event 4 win, he owns five cashes at the Seminole Casino Hotel totaling just over $19,000.

Event 4 final results:

1st: William Rodriguez – $1,500 + $1,100 Seat
2nd: Humberto Salinas – $1,476
3rd: Nora Salinas – $672
4th: Jeff Reese – $480
5th: Stephanie Richards – $384
6th: Taylor Patterson – $288

William Rodriguez was in the big blind and he verified Reese’s all-in bet before he too called. Reese and Richards were at risk while Rodriguez and Salinas played a side pot.

The pair checked down a kctc6s4sjs runout.

Salinas: kh8h for a pair of kings
Rogers: qcqh for a pair of queens
Reese: adjh for a pair of jacks
Rodriguez: qstd for a pair of tens

Salinas’s kings took it all and she busted both players while earning Rodriguez’s 30,000. Reese had Richards covered, so it was Richards who busted fifth while Reese took fourth.

Taylor Patterson

After a whirlwind of a level that saw Taylor Patterson involved in no less than six all-in-and-call pots, the Lake Placid resident finally found the felt. Down to just 3,500 chips at 2,500/5,000 blinds, Patterson shoved the button and Humberto Salinas called the 5,000 from the small blind. Jeff Reese checked from the big blind and Patterson was at risk in a three-way pot.

Runout: 9s9h8c4c8d — Two pair on the board

Salinas: th2h for nines and eights with a 10

Nora Salinas raised to 12,000 from late position. It was on Josh Bridge in the small blind and he shoved for 29,000. Next up was Dave Milligan in the big blind who shoved for more — 55,000. Action was back on Salinas.

“What the hell,” she said throwing calling chips in the pot.

Salinas had both players covered, but needed to improve.

Bridge: kxkx
Milligan: axjx
Salinas: kdjd

Runout: tx4x2xaxqx

Salinas did the unthinkable, hitting a gutshot straight draw on the river and going from worst to first in the hand. Her Broadway was best and she sent Bridge and Milligan packing and put the field into the money.

Immokalee, Fla. — Cory Williams won Event 3 of the 2017 WPTDeepStacks at Seminole Casino Hotel in Immokalee, Fla. late Tuesday night. The $125 Deep Stack tournament needed better than 10 hours to play out, but it was Williams who was crowned champion following a heads-up chop with Fonthip Menke. The duo split the prize pool even, but as chip leader Williams took home the added $1,100 Main Event seat.

Williams started the event strong and finished stronger. He claimed the chip lead as registration closed, but had a long way to go with multiple tables full of competitors still in play. No stranger to Immokalee success, Williams has now recorded five cashes at the property including a fifth-place finish in the 2015 WPTDeepStacks Main Event for better than $10,000.

After holding the chip lead early in the $125 Big Stack, Williams continued his stellar play and remained patient as the event dragged on. The nine-handed final table was reached at about 5:30pm local time and only the top five players were set to finish in the money. From there, it took over three hours for a double elimination to send Bruce Snell and Jennifer Rogers to the rail propelling the tournament in to the money.

William Rodriguez was eliminated fifth the first hand after the bubble burst and Dave Milligan was next to go in fourth. It took just under an hour for Williams to turn a queen-high flush while Jim Avery turned a nine-high flush. The duo got the last of Avery’s stack in the middle and Williams held. Williams took the chip lead to heads-up play against Fonthip Menke and the pair quickly agreed to a deal.

Williams is a 27-year-old firefighter from Alva where he works as a firefighter and emergency medical technician. The victory in the $125 Deep Stack marks his first recorded win and puts him at over $46,000 in reported earnings.

Event 3 final results:

1st: Cory Williams – $1,287 + $1,100 Seat
2nd: Fonthip Menke Hart – $1,287
3rd: Jim Avery – $585
4th: Dave Milligan – $429
